Un estudio elaborado por la agencia española de marketing digital BlueCaribu determinó que Movistar es la empresa con mayor presencia en Internet en Colombia. El análisis, que tuvo en cuenta a las 15 mayores compañías del país por volumen de ventas, determinó que Movistar encabeza el listado al obtener 91,8 de 100 puntos posibles.

La metodología utilizada por BlueCaribu tuvo en cuenta los datos básicos sobre la presencia de estas empresas en la web (visitantes únicos, tiempo promedio de visitas, etcétera), pero también su participación en las redes sociales (Twitter y Facebook), su nivel de relacionamiento y su crecimiento en estos medios.

Con 1,2 millones de visitantes únicos, la página web de Movistar (www.movistar.co), no solo encabeza la muestra de empresas seleccionadas por BlueCaribu, sino que supera varias veces los datos de su principal competidor en el sector.

En materia de redes sociales, Movistar está muy cerca de los 49.000 seguidores en Twitter y ya supera los 116.000 fans en Facebook, lo que la coloca como el operador de telecomunicaciones con mayor presencia en las redes digitales.

Para Ariel Ponton, CEO de Movistar Colombia, “los resultados del estudio elaborado por BlueCaribu dan cuenta de la decisión de la compañía de ser protagonista del mundo digital con herramientas que permitan a nuestros clientes tener una mejor experiencia de atención y servicio”.

Latin American airline Avianca and Colombian petroleum company Ecopetrol rank second and third, respectively. The research, which analyzed the online presence of Colombia's 15 largest companies, took into account basic factors related to the presence of these companies on the web (unique visitors, average visit time etc.), as well as their presence on social networking sites (Twitter and Facebook). Movistar led the top with 91.8 points out of 100 points possible. Movistar Colombia's webpage has 1.2 million unique visitors. The operator also has nearly 49,000 Twitter followers and over 116,000 Facebook fans.

Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest y una 'app' para equipos m?viles hacen parte de las herramientas que tiene Movistar para atender, a trav?s de canales virtuales, las peticiones, quejas y reclamos de los clientes.

Adem?s, la compa??a utiliza estos medios para entregar informaci?n sobre facturas, planes y tiene una funci?n para encontrar la oficina m?s cercana, a trav?s del servicio de geolocalizaci?n, con el GPS de tabletas y smartphones.

La empresa, pionera en atender a sus clientes a trav?s de redes sociales, cuenta con un Centro de Gesti?n Digital desde el 2011. Este, se cre? inicialmente para los usuarios a trav?s de Twitter y Facebook, plataformas en las que los clientes participan activamente, intercambian conocimientos y hablan de la compa??a.

"La meta era buscar cu?l era la mejor forma para atender las solicitudes de los clientes. Se realizaron an?lisis y comparaciones, durante la pr?ctica, para medir el impacto de la comunicaci?n con los usuarios a trav?s de redes sociales", afirm? Daniel Palacio, administrador de redes sociales de Movistar Colombia.

A diferencia de otros proyectos, en los que se hacen estudios de mercados profundos, este adapt? las herramientas y el servicio a medida que crec?a el n?mero de usuarios y de solicitudes a trav?s de las redes.

El trabajo -experimental en sus inicios- lo realiza un equipo de 10 personas que est?n dedicadas las 24 horas del d?a a atender solicitudes de los usuarios en las redes sociales y a crear contenidos para conformar comunidad.

El Centro, que atend?a entre 100 y 200 requerimientos por mes, hoy llega a 6.000 en redes sociales y hasta 40.000 por medio de la aplicaci?n para m?viles (ver infograf?a).

Dubbed 'MovistarCo', the service enables users to access mobile account information, check available credit, monthly consumption, as well as get support for roaming services, and locate the nearest Movistar customer service office. Movistar reports that its MovistarCo service is already used by 20,000 customers across Colombia. The app is available for free download on iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Communication in Colombia and the country’s spectrum agency (Agencia Nacional del Espectro, or ANE) have once again postponed the planned auction of spectrum licences suitable for the provision of Long Term Evolution (LTE) services in the country. RCRWireless reports that the latest delay was revealed by officials at the International Spectrum Congress this week via a document titled ‘4G Auction Analysis’, which set forth its new auction deadline and responded to criticism from operators and senators. Under the latest plan, the 4G spectrum auction will now take place in December, with the ministry accepting comments from companies interested in participating in the tender until 24 August. The auction draft will be published in the first week of September, it said.

The government hopes the spectrum auction will, amongst other things, encourage a new player to enter the domestic mobile market, but its plans have been derailed once already this year. In July the 4G auction, previously slated for June, was pushed back to 5 September – although no reason was given for the postponement. 225MHz of spectrum is up for grabs this year, with the government hoping to auction between four and six new licences under an ultimate goal to auction 300MHz of spectrum by 2014. According to the 4G Auction Analysis paper, the first sub-band is from 1710MHz-1755MHz, paired with 2110MHz-2155MHz; the second sub-band is comprised of 2525MHz-2570MHz, paired with 2645MHz-2690MHz (for FDD allocations), and 2575MHz-2615MHz (for TDD allocations free of guard bands). The third sub-band is 1865MHz-1867.5MHz, paired with 1945MHz-1947.5MHz.

The document also sets forth the general terms and conditions for the auction process, including coverage requirements, national roaming and the plans in place to encourage a new market entrant to enter the fray. The 700MHz band (the so-called ‘digital dividend’) was also mentioned in the document, with the government hinting at the possibility of auctioning 90MHz of spectrum in the 700MHz band by 2013. However, it noted that this spectrum is not currently available.

The government document notes that the primary purpose of the LTE auction is to drive internet uptake in the country. As such, officials argue that it is necessary to allocate more bandwidth for 3G and 4G/LTE services, as under the its ‘Vive Digital’ strategy plan, the government is targeting 3G services in all municipal capitals, with LTE coverage in at least half.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, at present the only operator offering 4G services is state-owned Une-EPM, which launched commercial service over its LTE network in June, though the trio of other operators – Claro Colombia (previously known as Comcel), Movistar Colombia and Tigo Colombia – are all interested in acquiring 4G spectrum. Also expected to weigh-in for the concessions are Chile’s Entel, NII Holdings, DirecTV and International Communications Network.

Simon Richardson MBE lit the final paralympic cauldron outside City Hall in Cardiff on Monday. It was part of a series of flamecelebrations that have happened around the UK in the lead up to the 2012 Paralympic Games.

"I was so proudto light the cauldron and get nominated to do it because there are so many morepeople more worthy than me," Simon told BikeRadar. "I got specified by John Morgan and the team atDisability Sports Wales to do that. I'd just like to thankfriends such a Magnus Backstedt and his family and my family and the manypeople who just turned up out of nowhere in the pouring rain for being part ofthe special day.”

The multi-Paralympic medalist's ownpreparations for London 2012 were dashed when he was knocked off his bike andleft for dead during an early morning training session just over a year ago by drunk and partially sighted farmer Edward Howell Adams, driving a van onthe A48 near Bridgend.

Talking about the court case which comes toa conclusion with sentencing for Adams this Thursday, he said: “It will be nice to getfull closure from the accident. Whatever happens, happens to him but the CPS haspushed hard so a precedent will hopefully be set so that drunk driving withadverse outcomes like this now automatically becomes dangerous driving.Hopefully my misfortune has helped the roads be slightly safer and to makeprocedure slightly easier for those involved in future incidents.”

“I would have loved tohave been there in London to compete but now I'm setting my goals on Rio," said a determined Richardson. "Ihave a really good team behind me and I'm looking forward to the (back)operation in mid-to-late September.” Whether he will be on a two wheeled bikeor in a hand-cycle remains to be seen as the procedure he will undergo willlikely reduce his ability to bend his spine.
